Lindbergh's AP/IB Honors Program
The International Baccalaureate Program (IB) is a rigorous, comprehensive curriculum in the 11th and 12th grades which leads to the prestigious IB Diploma. IB students must take a prescribed set of classes which prepares them to sit for exams in each of six areas of study:
a. Language A - Native language of the student - English
b. Language B - Student choice of either Spanish, German, or French language
c. History of the Americas
d. Biology or Chemistry
e. Calculus or Statistics
f. A sixth area of study in one of the following: 1. IB Music, Visual Arts, Theatre Arts, Business
& Management, a second foreign language, IB computer science, a second science.
In addition, Diploma candidates must complete three (3) other requirements:
Theory of Knowledge (TOK)- an interdisciplinary course intended to stimulate critical reflections upon the knowledge and experience gained inside and outside the classroom. The course seeks to develop a coherent approach to learning which trancends and unifies the academic subjects and encourages appreciation of other cultural perspectives.
Extended Essay- is an original research paper of 4000 words on a subject chosen by the student. Essay research begins in 11th grade and is finished by the end of first semester in 12th grade.
Creativity, Action, Service (CAS) Hours- are required by candidates in order to develop awareness, concern, and the ability to work cooperatively with others. Students accumulate hours through both 11th and 12th grade.
Advanced Placement (AP) Program is a cooperative educational endeavor of secondary schools, colleges, and the College Board. Advanced Placement has rigorous course descriptions and examinations for each AP subject. The examination in most of these subjects covers the equivalent of a full year college course. The following courses are offered for Advanced Placement and possible college credit or placement:
a. English Literature and English Language
b. Spanish, German, and French Language
c. Chemistry, Biology, Physics B and Physics C
d. US History, US Government & Politics, Psychology, & Geography
e. Statistics, Calculus AB, Calculus BC, Computer Science, & Economics
f. Music Theory and Studio Art
Both IB and AP exams can earn college credit or placement depending on the exam grade and the college.
