Staff Development Plan
(Adopted 2007)
Mission:
To support teachers with focused professional development as they continue to improve instruction so that each student may achieve at higher levels of performance.
Functions:
In planning and developing staff development activities, the Professional Development Committee establishes the following functions:
- Support the goals of the Comprehensive School Improvement Plan and Building Improvement Plans.
- Provide individual and collective staff development opportunities that promote student achievement.
- Coordinate in-service activities for scheduled professional development days
- Arrange on site in-service learning during the summer and throughout the school year to address teachers' needs and concerns.
- Provide a training program for mentor teachers.
- Assist beginning teachers with development and implementation of their individual professional development plans.
- Serve as a confidential consultant upon a teacher's request.
- Develop and administer a budget for professional development activities.
- Provide professional resources to enhance instructional practices.
- Assess staff needs and develop methods to meet those needs.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of the professional development program.
Goals:
Lindbergh's Professional Development Committee considers the Professional Development Needs Assessment Survey, the Comprehensive School Improvement Plan, the Building Improvement Plans, and student assessment data to establish to following goals:
- To support efforts so that the Lindbergh student test results will meet Missouri standards for Appropriate Yearly Progress (AYP) every school year.
- To provide MAP related training in the areas of curriculum implementation, instruction, and assessment.
- To assist teachers in making data driven decisions regarding curriculum, instructional practices, and assessment methods.
- To provide beginning teacher assistance through mentor support, assistance in writing Professional Development Plans, training at university sponsored New Teacher Assistance Programs, a seven day New Teacher Induction, peer coaching, observation of master teachers, and other professional development opportunities to meet the specific needs of beginning teachers.
- To collaborate with the technology department to provide in-service opportunities to integrate technology into classroom instructional programs.
- To provide professional development that is appropriate, supportive, collegial, effective, systemic, and ongoing.
Organizational Components:
The plan to accomplish the Professional Development goals incorporates three organizational components:
- District-wide activities
- Building activities
- Individual professional opportunities
