Lindbergh High School
Finalist in MSOC Recognition Program
On January 8th MSOC site visitors, Tami Bopp and Pam Bylsma spent a day visiting students, staff, parents and other members of the LHS community. An application was submitted in December to MSOC and the visit verifies the contents of the application. Look for an announcement in the near future to see if LHS is going to be our 4th MSOC and if they will be selected to continue on to the NSOC application process.
Great Character in Sportsmanship:

A Rockwood Summit fan recently shared the following example of Lindbergh Character through Sportsmanship with Mary Jane Driscoll. According to Mary Jane the call came from a Rockwood fan who had a grandson in the Rockwood Summit marching band but she called to talk about the Lindbergh marching band.
After the performance of the Rockwood Summit band, the entire Lindbergh band stood up and gave them a standing ovation. She said that it was one of the classiest gestures she's ever seen.
Everyone was talking about it. It was a real class act.

In another great demonstration of character, a student in our LHS Character Council suggested inviting our opponents to participate in Canned Goods for Character at all football games. Friday November 6th, 2009 Two neighboring National Schools of Character collected hundreds of cans to help food pantries in their districts. Congratulations to Fox and Lindbergh High Schools for redefining excellence in sportsmanship!

The designation of Missouri School of character is earned following an extensive application process followed by a visit from educators on the board of the Missouri School of Character Program. Visitors have an opportunity to meet and talk with members of the Board, staff, students, parents, and community members. They also observe classrooms, meetings and buddy activities throughout the District. Their glowing reports on Lindbergh's Character Education Program and the outstanding applications submitted by our schools reflects the outstanding results possible when schools, their district, and community have a commitment to graduate citizens of character. An example of our district's score sheet showing Lindbergh receiving a 3.9 out of a possible 4.0, can be viewed by clicking here.

After recognition as a Missouri School of Character schools and districts may further apply to be named as one of only 10 Schools of Character chosen annually. The National Character Education Partnership sends visitors from the CEP Selection Panel in the spring each year to Missouri Schools of Character.

Sappington Elementary School's Character Education Team, under the leadership of Mrs. Kaye Rueschhoff, submitted an application to the Missouri Schools of Character Program in early December. They have also been selected as a 2008 Missouri School of Character. In addition their application was selected to move on to the National Schools of Character Awards Program and Sappington was recognized as a 2008 National Schools of Character. Congratulations to the Sappington Team!

Kennerly Elementary, under Principal Steve Suess and Building Team Leader Amy Richards was selected as the first elementary national school of character in 2000. Since Kennerly hosts hundreds of educators to tour their wonderful learning community.
